Meet our Coaches
Our approach to executive coaching and team coaching is founded on the observation and belief that the extraordinary exists in the masterful integration of opposites, or polarities. The “both/and” rather than the “either/or.” For example, extraordinary leaders work from the heart…living their values, focusing on that which provides meaning and purpose, acting from a place of empathy and humanity. At the same time, and in equal measure, they work from the “head”…leveraging their business saavy, focusing on measurable results, acting with speed and crispness.
Our processes are modeled on the both/and approach, after our founder, Sherryl T. Christie. Sherryl is fearless in her coaching, unwilling to compromise results by sugar-coating feedback or failing to tackle the tough issues or tall egos. She “tells it like is.” At the same time, her genuine warmth and care for the client—as a person first—is at the heart of each coaching partnership. We believe these two must co-exist.
Our coaches are incredibly experienced. Combined, they have been doing this work for over 80 years…long before it was called executive coaching. And, like our clients, they continue to evolve their skills and stay current through consistent, ongoing education and training.
Sherryl T. Christie, MCC — Founding President/Master Coach
If you want to take your leadership to the next level and are ready to make a profound transformation, Sherryl is the master coach to guide you there.
Her decades of training and experience, her wide array of tools, plus her uncanny gift to carefully observe human interaction and spot the most relevant behaviors inhibiting growth and leadership enable Sherryl to highly customize the coaching experience.
She holds two Master Coach certifications—one from the Hudson Institute of Santa Barbara and the other from the International Coach Federation (ICF). In 2017, she will complete requirements for her diploma in Coaching Supervision from the Coaching Supervision Academy in London.
A true expert, she gets to meaningful results faster. She has helped develop leaders in organizations such as REI, Costco, Seattle Lighthouse for the Blind, Puget Sound Energy, GE Healthcare, and Apple.
As a dedicated ally and confidant for her clients, Sherryl is known for her direct, honest feedback; deep insightfulness; and a genuine care for her clients’ well-being. She lives on Whidbey Island in Washington’s Puget Sound.
Sam Magill, MCC — Master Coach/Coach Supervisor
Sam is masterful at helping clients discover their own in-the-moment behavior and to establish clear visions of where and how they want to be. He is both pragmatic and visionary…grounded in the practicalities of science and business (earning a degree in biology and an MBA) and skilled in the art of observation and meaningful reflection, as a poet and photographer.
For the last 30 years, Sam has worked with individuals, small teams, and employee groups as large as 1200. Whether he is supervising other coaches, facilitating resolution of group to group conflict, or helping executives de-role and/or re-role as a result of organizational change, Sam’s calm and reassuring demeanor, deep listening, and wise interventions create environments in which people have the conversations that enable long-lasting shifts in perspectives and behaviors. He thrives on helping create and sustain honest organizations.
An avid learner, Sam holds a diploma in Coaching Supervision through the Coaching Supervision Academy in London, is a Master Certified Coach through the International Coaching Federation, and has earned numerous certifications in a variety of tools and assessments. As a skilled mentor and facilitator, Sam taught coaching at the Hudson Institute of Santa Barbara, and currently teaches Coaching Supervision at the Coaching Supervision Academy in the UK, the US, and France (speaking French fluently).

Ron Norman — Operations Manager/Photographer
Ron brings twenty-six years of operations experience to Best Practice, Inc., drawn from his career in health care management and IT—adding a healthy dose of pragmatic thinking, fiscal discipline, soft-spoken empathy, and quick wit to our back office team.
He served more than a decade as V.P. of Regence Blue Shield’s Boeing division, where he administered the airline manufacturer’s self-insured worldwide health benefits program. Covering claims and customer service, he oversaw a 243-person team trained in all aspects of client care and financial support. Prior to this, Ron was V.P. of Government Programs for Blue Cross of Washington and Alaska. Both the Boeing and the government program roles required Ron’s superlative organization, follow-through, and innovative information technology solutions to support these clients. He earned, as a result, both the recognition of his peers and financial bonuses for superior performance. He received his B.A. from the University of Washington’s Foster School of Business and is an accomplished photographer, fisherman, and avid outdoorsman.
